چکیده

The recovery of the 3D path of the transducer used during an Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) examination is of primary importance to assess the exact 3D shape of the vessel under study. Traditionally, the reconstruction is done simply by stacking the images during the pullback, or more recently using biplane angiography to recover the vessel curvature. In this paper, we apply the formulation of a perspective projection model, which enables us to determine the angulations of an IVUS transducer from single-plane angiogram only. The transducer angulation reconstruction is based on the foreshortening effect as seen from the X-ray images. By comparing the measured to the true transducer length, we are able to get its incidence angle. The transducer trajectory is reconstructed by stitching together the different estimated angulations obtained from each image in a cineangiogram sequence. The method is described and validated on a helical vessel phantom. Keywords—3D reconstruction, IVUS, phantom, single-

Single wall closed-form differential ultrasound calibration

In freehand 3D ultrasound, images are acquired while the position of the transducer is recorded with a tracking device. Calibration is essential in this technique to find the transformation from the image coordinates to the reference coordinate system. The single wall technique is a common calibration method because a simple plane phantom is used. Despite its advantages, such as ease of phantom...

Shells With Integrated RadiaL and Spiral (SWIRLS): An improved shells k-space trajectory

Introduction The shells trajectory is a 3D non-Cartesian trajectory that samples k-space data on the surfaces of a series of concentric spheres. It has been shown to have many favorable properties such as efficient k-space coverage, variable sampling density, motion correction, spherical center-out ordering, and maximal speed for acquiring the center of a 3D k-space (1,2). The implementation of...

Design, Construction and Evaluation of an Anthropomorphic Head Phantom for Assessment of Image Distortion in Stereotactic Radiosurgery Planning Systems

Introduction: In recent years, the use of magnetic resonance (MR) images in radiation treatment planning has drawn considerable attention. However, although the extent of a tumor can be determined in great detail on MR images, the geometric accuracy of these images is limited by distortions stemming from the inhomogeneity of the static background magnetic field, the nonlineari...

Image-Based Method for In-Vivo Freehand Ultrasound Calibration

For freehand ultrasound systems, a calibration method is necessary to locate the position and orientation of a 2D B-mode ultrasound image plane with respect to a position sensor attached to the transducer. In addition, the acquisition time discrepancy between the position measurements and the image frames has the be computed. We developed a new method that adresses both of these problems, based...

True 3-dimensional reconstruction of coronary arteries in patients by fusion of angiography and IVUS (ANGUS) and its quantitative validation.

BACKGROUND True 3D reconstruction of coronary arteries in patients based on intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) may be achieved by fusing angiographic and IVUS information (ANGUS). The clinical applicability of ANGUS was tested, and its accuracy was evaluated quantitatively. METHODS AND REUSLTS: In 16 patients who were investigated 6 months after stent implantation, a sheath-based catheter was used...
